Running Trip 2022. Ireland

Thursday 25 th August 2022.

I flew air nz to Dublin via lax. Both flights were uneventful.

I taxi'd to my hotel in Dublin central. It turns out that the Gate Hotel is overpriced and super busy and noisy with revellers around. Luckily I doubt anything (except jetlag) will keep me awake tonight.

There was time before dinner, so after some quick research I decided to run around Phoenix Park. This is an enormous park just near central Dublin, with stately estates, parks, sports fields, monuments etc. I ran around the perimeter, which was quite a long way!

This is the Wellington monument obelisk. The largest in Europe. It literally reminds me of the pyramids. Massive

Nice overcast weather. The city roads very congested with people and cars. The central part of the city is full of drunks and grime. Lively I guess!

I booked the hop on hop off bus (narrated) around dublin today. Quite fun. 

I got off half way to go to the zoo.

The weather is gorgeous.

The Dublin Spire is much much taller than it looks in this photo!

Today I checked out of my nasty and very noisy Gate Hotel (although I am now fighting them for a refund) and into the much nicer Grafton Hotel. This area of town north of the river is amazing! Overflowing with tourists and shopping delights and restaurants spilling out onto the pedestrianized streets. I enjoyed just wandering around eating croissants and admiring the beautiful buildings such as St George's arcade

 and the impressive St Patrick's cathedral.
