Dolomites 2025. Day 2

Today was always going to be a long day out on the trails. 24km and 1400m of elevation.
An additional option to start the day was to run(hike!) up the mountain out of Ortisei instead of catching the cable car. The boyz were keen to do so, in spite of the extra 5km and 600m immediate vertical. I wasn't convinced the night before, but changed my mind overnight and then had to stop the others from wimping out at breakfast!
So we worked our way up lovely slope and eventually caught up with the others for morning tea time.
We ran through some of the highest and largest pristine pastural fields, which was a stunning set of high altitude rolling grasslands.

Epic views everywhere.

I felt pretty strong going up the hill, but started to get pretty fatigued during the day. By lunchtime I wasn't feeling too good and couldn't really eat. I think yesterday's big effort sprinting around was affecting me, plus I had a head cold that wasn't helping.
So although the running and scenery were excellent, I didn't enjoy myself as much as the first day.
Tonight we stayed at a mountain refuge, which meant that we needed to carry extra gear like changes of clothes, passports, chargers, toiletries, extra layers etc.. These all fitted ok into my older smaller running pack even when my running poles were included. Yay!
