Onehunga Half Marathon 2023

18 June 2023
21.1km, 1:35:00

Race Day
The weather was lovely (by chance) and very still.

The ground was wet and occasionally slippery. The course was very flat, with tiny hills a few times.

Will, Nev and Barnaby raced off (to try to beat 1:29), but I was tired (and old and slow!), and never planned to race it at speed. (especially keen to avoid a kicking!)

There weren't enough (any) portaloos at the start, which was a problem for many.

We ran along the Onehunga foreshore (past the cemetery), turned around and came back to the (new) bridge over the Manukau. (at the 8km mark)

Then we ran out east on the foreshore from Mangere, which was also a track that I hadn't been on before!

I did about 1:35 (the course was at least 100m short, perhaps more). Solid enough.
Nev started out ahead of Barnaby and Will, but they rejoined after 10km, and then eventually Barnaby (who is in great road-running form currently) sped away to beat Will by 10 seconds in about 1:27:30. Decent!

Michal and Maria were there, running just a tad slower than me.
Good fun for all.
