UTMB Day 6

Saturday 17 September
The forecast for our last day of encircling Mt Blanc was terrible. Rain and snow. Everyone kitted up in the morning with lots of wet weather gear. We were all a bit fearful about the day ahead.
Fortunately, it stopped raining just before we left our hotel... And the snow on the hills was a special bonus!!

We started with a long steep 800m climb up from Trient. We could see the snow above us, and we gradually made our way up to meet it. GorgeousπŸ˜ƒ
Soon we were running/tramping through a thick forest of snow.
Amazingly, the sun even appeared.
From the peak we descended down with some great snowy single track until we got back to warmer climes.

After a bite to eat, we had to decided whether to finish via the high route (800m climbing) or the low route (500m climbing). The other (slower) group was doing the low route, and we decided that we could push hard and still make the desired 3pm finish time in Chamonix.

So we climbed and climbed and climbed. Super steep rock stuff. The views got spectacular.

Everyone was running and climbing well, and I never felt close to my limit. This helped make it super enjoyable.
I felt like a teenager, skipping and jumping over rocks and light on my feet.
(Over the week, I stubbed my toes a couple of times and nearly fell - and also went over on my right ankle twice without damage πŸ˜ƒ)

We eventually started the final big descent.
Videos to come

We had a bit of an uphill race at one point, which I surprisingly won 😁😁😁

We got down to the town and met up with the other half of our group to finish together back at the Chamonix church where we began 6 days ago.
Lots of whooping, high fives and merriment followed.

There was a wedding taking place, and it felt like the bells were ringing just for us!

Just the best week ever. Thanks to Run The Wild, and our awesome guides Simon and Bruno and support Karen.
