UTMB Day 2

Tuesday 13 September
We started out from Les Contamines along a flat section and visited a nice church.
This is my running buddy Mark, who it turns out was also at Clonmel for the WMMR champs! George is in the background.
We split into two groups (which we did for the remainder of the trip), and I settled nicely into the faster group, which was led by the super knowledgeable Bruno today.

We started the inevitable climb, and ran up to an ancient Roman bridge, which crossed an amazing chasm and river. Pictures do not do it justice.

We crept up and up, and I found a nice souvenir piece of quartz and slate for Amelia.
We reached the Col de Bonne Homme, where the weather was still beaut and mild.
We started descending.
The run down to our accommodation in Les Chapieux was fast, steep, tricky and rocky. But the time we got down to our super quaint and fun accommodation, our quads were smashed jelly.
After a quick drink and tasty dinner, everyone was straight off to bed. (This was a repetitive theme throughout the 6 days!)
My roommate for this (and previous) night was Dave H, who was enjoyable techy and runnery and stravary. I'm not sure if I snored or not, but if so then he was polite enough to lie about it 😬
