The Day
I drove Brett, Barnaby and Neville out to Waiuku (leaving Greenlane at 6:55 was plenty early) on an overcast but mostly dry morning. We met Neil and Michal out there.
The Run
I had run a hard 8km the previous day, and seem to be in a low-ebb of fitness, so I was planning to run this race very conservatively. (especially after blowing up so badly at Totara Park previously).
I started steady and enjoyed the lovely soft footing and occasional sea/river views.
Michal, Barnaby and Neville scooted out ahead and had a merry time in close proximity to each other, with Barnaby just edging out Neville at the end (so he says...), and Michal just a bit further back. (Actually, Barnaby and Neville were given the exact same time... and there is no photographic evidence that Barny won... just saying....)
I met Oscar during the run (who is training up for the Auckland Marathon - good luck!)
Brett smashed out a win (by 30 minutes!) in the 60+ Long course, and Neil ran well, coming in 11 minutes after me.
