XTerra Totara Park 2020

21th July 2020

The Run
Oh Totara Park, why you be so damn mean?

Barnaby took me and Brett out (via a Sam MTBing detour). The day was reasonably warm and windless. We had lots of rain the previous week, but the trails were totally fine. (You could even have run in normal running shoes without any problem).
We met Michal and Neil there, being the sum total of the RunLikeCrazy team this time. Even Pru didn't turn up (afaik).

We started at a brisk pace, with me following behind Michal and Barnaby for most of the first lap.
I felt ok, although puffing hard.

By the end of the first lap, I was knackered. Like, knackered.
I dropped off Michal and Barnaby and then Gary W passed me easily. At this point, my cardiovascular system self destructed and my will power crumpled. I ended up walking bits and merely jogging the rest of the course.

I ended up 10 minutes behind Gary and about 8+ behind Barnaby and Michal, who both smashed it fast and furious.

Brett ended up first 60+ for Long Course by over 20 minutes!

The Conclusion
I don't know why I had such a bad race. I hadn't run much leading up to Totara Park (skiing and holidaying mostly), but I thought that should find me well rested. Perhaps I was a bit dehydrated?

At least Totara Park didn't injure me this time!
