The Day
I drove Brett out, leaving St Heliers at 7:20, which was still plenty early.
The morning was lovely! Blue(ish) skies and decently warm for July.
I had a cold, and was knackered from running hard the previous day so I was in survival mode only. I really wanted to complete the event, just in case I couldn't make one of the last two Xterra events coming up (since you require 5 events for a series result).
Brett and I met Michal and his friend Maria K, who was doing great in the masters womens super long. Neil was there in good form. The 5 of us only just made a 'team' entry valid, since *everyone else piked* !!! Softies!!!
I had my slowest xterra ever (apart from last year's sprained ankle), struggling around the course as best I could. I caught up to Brett's nemesis (Nick) with about 5km to go, but he was running pretty well, and I finished up a little behind him.
I was 2nd in my age group, but only lost one minute to him.
But, I completed and that was the main goal :)
The run itself was pretty muddy, and I enjoyed the single track.
Everyone else had a good run.
