Skiing Whakapapa - Clarks and Worns
1 September 2018We 4 drove down to National Park on Friday evening, staying at Tongariro Crossing Lodge.
Tim and Sam went down separately.
Our Tesla drove great, although the altitude gain of 825m to National Park took us by surprise and we used 95% of our battery getting to the fast charger there :) !
The forecast for Saturday was fine, and we chose to go early to Whakapapa. (Left NP at 6:45am, up for the First Tracks 8:00am lifts, heh, heh!)
The Tesla carpark at the top of the road was awesome... We got the RHS (front) park, which is the strongest with a 20A charging circuit.
Nikki stayed at NP for a quiet day, while we 5 had a fantastic day of skiing (and boarding for Sam and Tim). Amelia and Daniel continued to improve on their 3 days at Queenstown earlier in the season.
The crowds were meant to be terrible, but we got across early to the far west, and even when we returned to the east, no problems! Just 5 mins queues.
After about 2pm, the weather started closing in, and getting cloudy. Amelia liked skiing in the white-out...
A super day. My sprained ankle wasn't really a problem, and all we need next time will be more speed!
Sunday was bad weather, so we cruised up via Taupo and Hamilton superchargers (just to check them out really). We popped into the Hamilton Gardens.
