Glendowie College Fun Run 2018
23rd September 2018https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/3035564063
The pre-race trash talk was fairly non-stop ahead of this run. My ankle was no longer slowing me down, Barnaby was happy to ignore his sore leg, and Will and Neville were fighting fit.
The race started at full speed, like normal. A couple of college kids and a group of 5 adults powered along, although many kids got stupidly sent the wrong way across the road at Glendowie Park. Duh. Not us though :)
We ran up Roberta and down Vista Cres.
Amelia and Alix walked/ran it.
I felt ok initially, but was puffing a heap. After 3km, I started to lose the front group, and by 5km (at the top of Riddell), I was smashed. From there it was a pathetic stumble home in 43:26, which was 2+ minutes slower than my previous year's average showing...
I definitely would have done a better time if I hadn't run too fast initially!
Will held off an unknown dude (who we found out later was the 4th placed age-grouper in world triathlon champs recently), but could prevent the youngster TBC from beating him on the line. Neville ran strong, and Barny passed me with 3 km to go.
There was talk about the winner being awarded to some kids who took a shortcut... I'll need to find out the details later... and about the spot prize situation, which apparently I WON, only for Will to steal it from me. Updates later on this....
